Immigration Communication to Families
As part of our overall mission, Lyons SD 103 continually strives for the well-being of all students and staff. It serves as a beacon of safety, education, and resources for all families, regardless of gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, immigration status, and other protected classes. Lynos SD 103 board policy provides all children to the access of a free, public education.
Lyons SD 103 reminds families, staff, and the community of how it will continue to support ALL students and families in schools, based on State and Federal laws:
- Per federal law, Lyons SD 103 never asks for a student or their family’s immigration status when the child is enrolled in school
- The immigration status of a child will never impact the quality of the education they will receive in Lyons SD 103
- Lyons SD 103 will never share student records without a court order or consent from a parent/guardian.
- All immigration enforcement personnel, including local authorities and U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), are required to have a criminal warrant signed by a judge before accessing any Lyons SD 103 facility.
The District remains committed to its policies of equal opportunity and nondiscrimination as outlined by the Board of Education. It ensures families that all educators and administrators will continue to provide ALL children with access to a supportive, professional, and safe learning environment.
In addition, please note that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) specifically outlines schools as one of the legally protected areas in which immigration enforcement officials are to refrain from taking actions at or near.
The District is committed to supporting ALL students and families, including those who may be navigating unique circumstances and legal challenges, including concerns related to immigration status. For any students and families experiencing concerns or trauma on any issues, the District always encourages them to seek support from the District’s team of social workers, psychologists, and counselors.
