Mrs. Hiner, Robinson School fifth grade teacher, and two of her students attended the Space Foundation Conference held at Lyons Township High School earlier this month. The conference focused on exciting ways to bring the universe into the classroom and included topics such as the motions of the heavens, orbital mechanics, the seasons, and the phases of the moon through kinesthetic movement. Teachers and students also explored activities dealing with the immense scale of the universe along with uncovering misconceptions that many people have regarding astronomy. As a culminating activity, educators came together to share their thoughts on how to enhance schools' curriculum based on their experiences and new ideas learned at the conference.
